Junko Taki

Designer

Junko Taki grew up in a quiet coastal town in Ehime, Japan—surrounded by stillness, subtle beauty, and a deep sensitivity to space. These early impressions shaped her design sensibility from the start.
She studied Interior Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, where she immersed herself in a diverse, fast-paced environment that sharpened her perspective on how people live and interact with space.
After gaining professional experience in New York, she relocated to Oak Park, Illinois—a town steeped in architectural heritage and the quiet order of Frank Lloyd Wright’s legacy. Drawn to its balance of structure and warmth, she founded Polidesign to explore a design language that bridges Japanese and American sensibilities.
Her work spans residential and commercial projects across regions and cultures. Regardless of scale, she approaches each space with care—valuing cultural awareness and a composed, intentional sense of spatial rhythm that supports daily life with quiet strength.
At the heart of her practice is a quiet conviction: that design can connect people and cultures, and that thoughtfully shaped spaces can foster comfort, understanding, and a sense of belonging.

Studio Philosophy

A modern lamp

At Polidesign, Inc., we create spaces where quiet elegance and functional beauty coexist—spaces that support everyday life with calm and intention.
Rooted in Japanese architectural principles and cultural sensibilities, our work explores a modern, minimalist aesthetic that is both refined and approachable.
The name “Polidesign” reflects our founder Junko Taki’s heritage. Her family name 多幾 (Taki) carries the meaning of “many” and “abundance”—a concept echoed in the prefix poly- and in our approach to design: embracing multiple scales, perspectives, and relationships with care and restraint.
We believe design is a way to connect—across cultures, across disciplines, and above all, between people.
From small requests to large-scale projects, we shape each space thoughtfully, creating environments that foster understanding, comfort, and collaboration.
